Ukrainian Alona Tsikora first got acquainted with Fliq while she was studying information technology at VAMK and looking for a place to carry out her practical training. She wanted to find a company that would allow her to work on real projects and learn as much as possible about many different areas of information technology. How has Alona found her place in the company and what does she think are the best things about Team Fliq? Why does she recommend Fliq for students as a great place to pursue practical training?
– During my studies, I had studied a little bit of everything from databases to microprocessors and data languages. I got familiar with the programming language Golang during my time as an exchange student in Norway. My friend gave me a tip that Fliq was looking for someone with this experience, so I decided to give it a go and apply, Alona remembers.
In a small company like Fliq, getting to know the whole crew and having a clear idea of the company’s goal is easy. One thing Alona especially enjoys about working at Fliq is the atmosphere of working together.
– You’re never alone here and you can always ask for help from anyone, even if they don’t work on the same project with you. It’s good that the working language at Fliq is English, giving opportunities for people like me, who don’t speak Finnish or Swedish so well. I also enjoy the fact that Fliq is a very international company where we share cultures and don’t discriminate anyone, Alona explains the things she likes about Fliq’s working atmosphere.
Alona is currently finishing testing for backend, but her daily tasks at Fliq include a little bit of everything, always depending on what different projects need.
– At this point in my career, I want to learn as much as possible about everything. If I had to choose one thing I’m especially interested in, it would be artificial intelligence, Alona says.
In addition to a great team, Alona also gives compliments to Fliq’s flexibility when it comes to remote work and being in charge of your own schedule.
– While I’m now still working quite a lot at the office adjusting to everything, I’m excited about the possibility to work remotely and plan my own schedule. With this kind of freedom, it will be possible to combine traveling and working in the future, Alona tells.

You learn so much by working with backend, frontend and many different types of projects that are created from real customer needs, Alona encourages anyone looking to learn new things in information technology.
Alona is currently working hard on her thesis to finish her studies. For now, she wants to stay at Fliq and is curious about what kind of projects the future holds and what she can learn from them.
– Fliq gave me an opportunity to start my professional career, and everything is really good for me here. Right now, I don’t have any big ambitions for the future, but maybe one day I could become a project manager, Alona reveals with a smile.
