Automation major Anza Ghaffar first discovered Fliq during his university studies and ended up working full-time at the company a few years later. What are the things that motivate Anza to constantly be curious about the possibilities data has to offer? How does he feel Fliq can help him develop towards his professional goals? What benefits does he see from the flexibility Fliq has to offer?
Before his studies in Finland, Anza had studied his bachelor’s degree in telecommunication in his home country of Pakistan. He worked in data analytics, finance, and telecommunication before starting his master’s studies at the University of Vaasa in communications and systems engineering, majoring in automation.
– There is so much data out there, but it doesn’t tell you anything if you don’t ask the right questions. I find the curiosity to find the right questions and through that the best solutions very motivating in my work. This way data also teaches you something new every day, Anza tells.
Anza first discovered Fliq during his university studies where the company was one of the academic partners offering projects for students to work on.
– The type of projects Fliq had to offer in for example data analytics and machine learning sparked my interest. I started my career at Fliq with my thesis on integration of business intelligence dashboard for enhanced data analytics capabilities. In practice, my thesis was about visualizing data for customers with a dashboard using Python, Anza tells.
Since July 2020, Anza has been working full-time at Fliq with data analytics as well as developing data warehouses and pipelines for extracting data for customers.
As many other fellow members of Fliq’s team, Anza also gives thanks to the flexibility Fliq has to offer. He feels that at Fliq, you can really work from where you feel most comfortable, whether it be at the office or remotely from home. Anza normally travels a couple of months a year – a lifestyle that can be easily suited to fit his work schedule at Fliq. But flexibility is not only related to where you can physically work.
– I think flexibility at Fliq is also the freedom to do your own research, create solutions and try things out with your designs to find the best solutions for customers. It’s motivating when there is space and trust to express and develop your professional knowledge, Anza says.
Anza also wants to emphasize the flexibility of having English as a working language at Fliq.
– There is no language barrier as almost everyone speaks English, including our customers. It’s easy to communicate in projects and understand each other. I feel like this opens a lot of work opportunities for people who do not speak Finnish or Swedish, but have the skills, knowledge, and right attitude to work in Fliq’s field, Anza tells.
In the future, Anza hopes to be an expert in data analytics with a wide range of experience in different industries.
– Experience helps you understand companies and their needs better. And the better you understand, the better you can see what can be achieved and what’s not possible. This kind of professionalism requires hands-on knowledge that only comes from working with different types of fields. I feel that with Fliq, I’m on the right path to achieve my goal, since I can work with very different type of data and customers in my current work, Anza says.
